Thursday Night GIHP Ride

In professional road cycling, the greatest one-day classics -- Milan-San Remo, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, and the Tour of Lombardy are known as "The Monuments." They are hardest races with the richest history.
For C4, our "monument" is unquestionably the Thursday night Georgia International Horse Park (GIHP) ride. Although it actually started as a Wednesday evening event, cyclists calling themselves C4 have been riding this route since the summer of 2004.
With a 6 pm start and a 32-mile route, this ride generally pops up on our weekly schedule from March through September, when daylight is adequate to complete the loop. Watch our Riders' Group on Facebook and the C4 calendar for specifics.
Depending on turnout, this ride usually sorts itself early into groups of varying ability, with the "A Group" setting a blistering pace at the front. Others in the B and C groups ride a slower pace by necessity or choice. Declare your intentions at the start, and you'll usually find others willing to share your ride at your pace.
The route starts and finishes from the gravel parking lot for the mountain bike trail at GIHP. It features notable climbs on Cook Rd., Lake Varner, and the infamous Booger Hill, but the finish back to the Horse Park is mostly flat and fast -- if you have the legs left to kick it.
