Winter Base Rides
Conducted from January through March each year, this ride series is the perfect opportunity for new riders wishing to participate in group rides to learn group ride skills and safe road riding habits. Veteran C4 riders hone their own skills while helping new riders.
To accommodate varying fitness levels, weekends with longer distance routes also feature shorter options. Expect the core route for week 1 to begin with a distance of ~20 miles, ending 12 weeks later at ~60 miles. Each weekend's ride will always include a short option in the 20 to 30-mile range. As always, these are NOT fast rides, but rather a "small chain ring" tempo ride with speeds, depending on A, B, or C group (if that happens), between 13mph and 17mph. Each weekend's ride will have a designated Ride Leader with the core group to determine the route and make sure no one is dropped, to make sure safe riding habits are used, and to ensure core route riders make it back to their car. |

Come fit & prepared. That means: (1) a well-maintained bicycle, (2) fitness to ride at least 20 miles at 13mph-avg-spd, (3) dressed properly for winter weather, and (4) a subscription and working knowledge of the RidewithGPS app. Use this app on your smart phone for way finding, and use your phone to call the ride leader if necessary.
